What Are Some Common Examples of Limiting Beliefs About Money? If financial abundance feels like an impossible dream or if money seems to slip through your fingers faster than you can count it, there’s a good chance your limiting beliefs are at play.
These beliefs are more than just thoughts—they’re the subconscious programming that drives your actions and ultimately shapes your reality. They matter because money is energy, and when your beliefs about money are negative, you’re actually repelling it, energetically shutting it out of your life.
Let’s explore some of the most common limiting beliefs around money, where they come from, and how they may affect you.
The Top Limiting Beliefs About Money
1. Money Is Evil
One of the most common beliefs I came across in my research, is the idea that money is evil. This often stems from religious or cultural programming—phrases like “money is the root of all evil” have a way of embedding themselves deeply into our subconscious, whether or not we consciously subscribe to them.
This belief can trickle down through generations. Maybe your parents weren’t religious themselves, but if their parents were, they might have passed down this subtle but persistent programming about money being “bad”.
2. Having Money Is Selfish
Here’s another big one: the belief that having money makes you selfish. I see this a lot, especially when people unconsciously judge or portray wealthy individuals in a negative light. You might think, “They have so much, they should share it with everyone else,” or see wealth as something unfair.
When this belief sits in your subconscious, it can lead to rejecting money at an energetic level because you don’t want to be seen as selfish yourself.
3. I’m Not Good With Money
Have you ever felt like money just slips through your fingers? Like no matter how much you make, it’s gone before you know it? This is such a common one: “I’m not good with money.”
This belief often builds over time when you see repeated patterns of earning money and then losing it quickly. It reinforces the idea that financial stability just isn’t something you’re capable of.
4. I Don’t Deserve To Be Wealthy
This belief ties into deeper feelings of unworthiness. It’s linked to that ever-present “I’m not good enough” energy that so many people carry. When you don’t feel deserving of wealth, it becomes almost impossible to attract or hold onto it, because deep down, you don’t believe it’s meant for you.
5. Money Is Hard to Come By
How many of you have been told growing up that “money doesn’t grow on trees” or “you have to work hard for every cent”? This belief is deeply ingrained for many people and is often reinforced by personal experiences. If you’ve worked incredibly hard but still struggle financially, it’s easy to see why you’d come to believe that money is always scarce and difficult to attain.
Where Do These Limiting Beliefs About Money Come From?
Limiting beliefs about money don’t come out of nowhere. They’re rooted in your experiences and the messages you’ve absorbed throughout your life. Let’s look at some of the main sources of these beliefs.
1. Childhood Conditioning
Your childhood is where your “Faulty Core Identity” was formed. Between birth and the age of seven, you’re like a sponge, absorbing everything around you. If your parents or caregivers struggled financially or made comments like, “We can’t afford that” or “Rich people are greedy,” those messages likely became part of your subconscious programming.
You didn’t even need to understand the words at the time. The energy and emotions behind those statements were enough to embed themselves in your belief systems.
2. Societal Messages
The media plays a huge role in shaping how we view money. How often do we see wealthy people portrayed as greedy, corrupt, or out of touch? Society loves to equate wealth with negativity, and those messages seep into our subconscious whether we realise it or not.
Of course, not all wealthy people fit that stereotype. I know plenty of people with abundance who use their money to do incredible good in the world. But you won’t see those stories on the evening news because they don’t make for high-rating headlines.
3. Past Experiences
Have you ever made a financial decision that backfired? Maybe you invested in something that didn’t pan out or overspent in a moment of impulsiveness. These experiences can create powerful beliefs like “I’m not good with money” or “I can’t trust myself with finances.”
The problem is that these beliefs keep you looking back, reliving those past mistakes instead of focusing on what’s possible moving forward.
How Do You Clear These Beliefs?
Now, this is where the real work begins—clearing these limiting beliefs and rewiring your relationship with money. Here’s something to keep in mind: everything in your life right now is a reflection of what you’re energetically aligned with. From your income to your career to your living situation, it all mirrors your vibrational alignment.
If you want to change your financial reality, you need to get into vibrational alignment with the version of you who already has the abundance you desire. This involves identifying the beliefs that are holding you back (amongst other things), and doing the work to release them.
